Annual Dover WMU Mission Awareness Day
July 17 was Dover WMU's Mission Awareness Day held at Goochland Baptist Church.
The annual Dover WMU Mission Awareness Day was July 17th at Goochland Baptist Church. Rev. Pete du Plessis, Director of Missions for Richmond Baptist Association, spoke about his life changing experience in South Africa. Pete was born in South Africa, but moved to the United States when he was five years old. Pete saw many of the dire conditions in which many South Africans live. Pete visited orphanages--children whose parents were victims of AIDS. Pete also spoke about the importance of supporting the church planting initiative. Pete spoke about the apartheid (segregation) that still occurs today.
Paul and Sally Cline, members of Mechanicsville Baptist Church and missionaries to Botswana, Africa, spoke about their work in Africa. Both Paul and Sally shared how vitally important prayer is, and how knowing that people are praying for you enables you to endure many things. Sally worked primarily with youth in Botswana, and Paul did a variety of ministries. They were missionaries in Botswana for nearly thirty years. Many of the young people they taught and trained are the leaders today. AIDS is a powerful epidemic that is raging across Africa today. Paul and Sally serve as consultants on True Love Waits in various parts of Africa.
About a dozen children were present, and participated in games and other fun. Lunch was enjoyed by all after the presentations. Paul and Sally have returned to Richmond to live.
