"I lost my job. My severance package and retirement savings are gone. I am buried in debt. I could lose my house. I don't know where to start."
Sound familiar? Like many of you, we are responding to the tremendous needs of those who are in career transition. Unemployment in Richmond is expected to reach 10 percent, so we can predict that this crisis will continue to explode.
NEM's Career Transition Group began in 2001 with a local business leader facilitating a small group of 12 unemployed people. They met around a table to encourage and support one another, to network, to study what God has to say about handling the challenges and difficulties of unemployment, and to celebrate when a member secured a job. Today, this ministry has grown to four meetings a week with more than 130 men and women on our roster.
Over the years, God has enabled us to learn a great deal about serving the unemployed. We continue to learn and want to share some of our experiences with you. Rather than each of us reinventing the wheel, we intend this workshop to serve as a forum to provide useful tools and ideas.
I strongly encourage you to come and bring your ministry team leaders on April 29, as we exchange thoughts on what we are seeing and doing, and also to explore how we can partner further with you in this ministry.
A $10 charge will cover lunch. There is limited space so please RSVP by April 22.
