Fluvanna Correctional Center for Women Christmas Gift Program
It’s such a blessing when donors contact us, eager to learn about this year’s program. It reminds us of the commitment and generosity of spirt we’ve consistently seen in the donors we’ve had the privilege to work with over a period of many years. We hope this announcement will answer all your questions.
For the benefit of donors who may be newer to the ministry, here’s a brief overview of what’s involved:
It’s sponsored through the Chaplain’s Office at the Fluvanna County Correctional Center for Women, which is part of the Chaplain Service Prison Ministry of Virginia, Inc. This name will change in the near future to “Grace Inside.”:
The ministry is supported entirely by unpaid volunteers — many of whom perform other volunteer services inside the Correctional Center — and made possible by the generous donations from people throughout the state of Virginia and beyond.
The focal and main delivery point for the ministry is Effort Baptist Church in Palmyra, VA, which provides sorting and storage space and volunteers. Volunteers also come from various other churches in the local area.
The ministry has been in place since 1998, the year the correctional center opened
Transporting, collecting, sorting, and checking of donations and the sending of acknowledgment letters has made this ministry into an almost year-around effort for local volunteers
Although our main efforts are focused on the period leading up to Christmas, more and more donors are giving at other times of the year. We welcome donations at any time.
The only real change from last year’s program is a slight difference in the way we handle monetary donations. Those changes are addressed later in the e-mail. As a reminder, we welcome gifts at any time of the year, but we must receive gifts by Thanksgiving for them to be included in this year’s program. This gives us time to do preparation work in order to distribute them to the inmates in early December. Gifts received after Thanksgiving will be used the following year.
Here’s a list of approved gift items:
